One of the advantages would be more storage space.

Yes, but it's yield will be lower. Also, EP by default doesn't use mining drones. Minesalot's On-Grid Booster system does, though! www.macrolab-online.com/en/forums/23-ext...ooster-project-vs-35

If you're not using a Hauler, you'd have to do the math on whether the lost yield from using an Orca would be offset by the fact you'd likely only need to warp to a structure/station once or twice an hour to drop off ore, whereas the Skiff needs to go every 13 minutes iirc.
