for max orders; I can have 273. Should i only set it to 50? 273 sounds complicated and I only have 1bil isk to start with. As I get more isk available should i increase the max orders?

Start from 50 orders, as soon as bot install 2/3 of orders restart bot with 100 orders. This way bot will not install so many small orders.

EDIT: Based on jeveassets, in 14 days wallet went from 500M to 2.5B then down to 2B for the last 7 days (21 days total).
Total asset went from 3B to 5.5B in the same time but these are not ISK I can use, so wallet would be my main evaluation criteria.
