Okay so, if you are using the Macro to afk-mine I would never suggest anything other than the Skiff / T1 "Skiff" Barge.
That extra tank, with near identical fits, only lost me 8m isk overnight with Mining in a Mid-Sec system, so I'd rather lose 8m a night, than getting ganked every few days and losing about 50mil in ship + fit, at T1 level ships.
I suggest if you can fly Exhumers, use the Skiff always, the Extra tank is likely to put off many gankers, and save you more money in the long run, than losing a Mack to constant ganking.
Usually, if a ganking corp or fleet knows your name, from seeing you mine in the same systems and become more predictable, they are more likely to repeat gank you because it's almost guaranteed you will be there mining in an untanked ship.
I prefer the T1 ships because sometimes big fleets will go out to gank, and you can lose the tanked Mining ship, so lsing a t1 is not as bad isk-wise.
Furthermore, I use dedicated botting accounts, accounts that are throwaway and only used to mine with EvE Pilot. This means if I train up to T2 ships, it's a big loss, I'd rather tier into Strip Miner I's and T1 Barges, so that if banned on that account, I can just start a new one without a huge loss (Since you can mitigate the MacroLab license over to another account if one is lost)
Ultimately it's your choice, personally I'd go T1 all the way, 2 Adaptive Invulns, 2 Shield Extenders, 2 Strip Miner I's, 2 Mining Laser Upgrade I's, Some Hobgoblin I's since they go missing quite often, and Core Defense Purger rigs for faster shield regen in an attempted gank situation. So far I have not lost a single Mining Barge over 4 accounts running 4 VMs, all mining for roughly 12 hours a day each at staggered times. It earns enough, are completely expendable since it doesn't hold assets for long (Large Contract transfers for free re a little suspicious, just like large isk transfers)
